Sept. 29, 1939 — Biggest brown bear of the year, weighing 1,500 pounds, was brought down by D.S. Hopkins, of Spokane, hunting at Uyak on May 10, a compilation of the records of the Alaska Game Commission shows, reports the Juneau Empire.
The bear’s hide measured 11 feet long by 11 feet, eight inches wide. Its skull weighed 20 pounds cleaned."
