I was interested in putting in for the RG out of Seward in unit 7 for this November. Anybody have any stories, good or bad, about the hunt? I can get to the hunting grounds but just curious on goat tips. I have hunted sheep before but never a goat, except from the backyard farm.

Anybody planning an RG hunt out of Seward?

They won't announce which goat draw hunts will open as a registration hunt until late October. Past history shows it doesn't happen too often."One does not hunt in order to kill; on the contrary, one kills in order to have hunted"

I've been along on a couple goat hunts out of Seward. Assuming ADF&G opens up the registration hunt you're interested in, make sure your gear includes crampons (at least half-boot instep or full) and an ice axe. The steep, dead veg on those mountains is slick as snot and plenty dangerous to traverse without good traction. I use the Petzl Crab 6 instep crampons and an SMC Capra 100cm axe.
I bet that is a miserable hunt in November.

Goat country can kill you. In fact, a goat hunter fell to his death in 2012 in PWS.
Definitely cool animals, good luck and stay safe!
