Good news, The herd seems to be recovering nicely from Snowpacolypse. Quite a few Cordova hunters taking bucks so far and one friend of mine got three bucks last weekend.

Beach cruising is okay for shooting meat deer, but I don't think bucks shot off the beach are as 'deserved' as ones you hike muskegs and call in; or climb mountains to harvest. A big buck that has outsmarted every hunter all year long, only to be pushed to the beach to eat seaweed out of starvation in the dead of winter and gets shot; is hardly something to brag about.

Personally I think October is prime time for deer hunting in the Sound.
They are spread out across the range fattening up before the rut. It is cool enough to be comfortable and knock down the bugs but not cold enough to require heavy clothing. The leaves are falling and annuals are dying off so visibility is good. The length of the days allow for an honest day of hunting and a decent night's sleep. Toward the end of the month you might get a dusting of good tracking snow but never enough to push them down.
I can hardly wait.

End of November for us....can't wait.
Hope there's more than the 2 we saw last year on two trips. (One was Rogers, gutted on the deck.)

I can hardly wait.An opinion should be the result of thought, not a substitute for it.
