Amigo Will, that was my guess also. Unless that was his son's size 4 hipboot. LOL

I hope while your judging him to see if he's big enough to shoot he isn't sitting and judging you for meal size!

            i have to disagree...

toenails to close, and pads just look to me like a big boar black bear

            too late to bait, ...

            have yo7u tried calling?

I looked at how far his toe nail were out and dept of track compared to man with size thirteen boot dept of track which looks like a about zero. If wrong it happens and ex wifes as proof.

                Black or Brown

I was leaning towards black also but it is hard to tell. If it is a blackie it's definitely large! Toes seem too close together and claws not quite out far enough for this size track I feel to be brown one. Hopefully I will run across him in my travels.

The absence of claw marks would make one think black bear, however without being there and looking at the track it’s hard to tell, if the track is over 6’’ wide defiantly Brownie! If the track is 5-6” wide and was a Black bear….it would be a hog for sure!

                      For conversation……..

This is a Black Bear track I casted back in the early 90’s on POW…pushing 6’’ wide!

These two are Brown Bear tracks….note positive claw marks!

I can see the claw tracks in the mud pic but for sure they are not clear.

I can see claw marks for sure on the picture...A size 13 boot is going to be near 13 in long...that would make that track near 7 inches wide...about an 8 foot brown bear....The photo of the cast track shows the measuring tape off center by 1/2 inch or so...making the track about 5.5 inches wide...a good 6 to 6.5 foot black bear. I just fleshed a 7 foot black bear (honest measurement by the taxidermist, not the hunter LOL) and his pads were not 7 inches wide - a behemoth of a bear, for a blackie.

I bet that 7’ foot black bear you just fleshed has a 5’’ front pad!.....

I will let you know tomorrow...:-)... he measured 6'9" nose to tail and 7'5" front claw to front claw..relaxed, not pulled tight...if I had to guess right now if say his pads are about six inches wide.
