  • Valdez Bear Hunt

Pondering making a run from Fairbanks down to Valdez to Black Bear hunt for a few days between 9 May and 23 May. Would be a run and gun type hunt operating from my boat. Flexible on dates, would spit cost 50/50 and would expect the trip to cost less than 500 each. About the only cost would be fuel other than your food. Would camp out or sleep on the boat. Would be willing to give first shot to however comes along, might also be a chance for Brown Bear as well. Might drop the pots and wet a line too. All will depend on weather, as my boat is small, I have experience and safety gear to include sat phone, survival suits, PLB, etc...

Somebody should really jump on this. I would go just to eat some of the meals he prepares. I suspect that you would gain weight on a trip like this.

I would love to ... but my honey do, and sonny-do, and just gotta-do lists are in the way.

I will be in Valdez with some other guys but we will be on foot. I wish I had seen this earlier because it would be nice to get on a boat and be able to get out away from Valdez and all their restricted areas.

                    I wish...

I wish two things: 1) I had enough money to fly up to AK this year and 2) I had seen this post earlier.

Steve, keep a spot open for me in the coming years.

I have 2 bait stations going out there in the sound. One has had one bear on it that is rubbed bad. My other stand has had no hits.

A great trip either way I'm sure Steve. Good to get out. I'm sure Dan enjoyed his time, and enjoyed your cooking and company more. You're a class act and a great example to EVERYONE on this forum, or that knows you personally. Good luck with the rest of the years endeavors.

Thanks for sharing this write up Steve, I always enjoy reading about your adventures and especially your pictures, feels like I'm living through it at times. If I was residing up there I'd be your "Fat" hunting partner, because all I would do is eat everything you cooked. Thanks again, CK

Never a bad trip with you, Steve. Good weather, good whiskey, good food. Bear was elevated out against me the entire time, had the only flat and clear spot on the hill. Thanks again brother!
We do not go to the green woods and crystal waters to rough it, we go to smooth it. We get it rough enough at home; in towns and cities; in shops, offices, stores, banks anywhere that we may be placed
