  • Corona Virus impacts in Alaska

Local cities in Alaska are cancelling public gatherings, university and public schools and sports events due to the threat of the virus. As of today, all state and federal travel is cancelled as well as meetings, conventions, and events.

This prompted me to worry about the upcoming spring Outdoors Shows in Alaska, starting in Anchorage on April 3-5.

Here's the production company's response to my query this morning (3/13/20):

    "Hi Larry,

We understand concerns about the Corona virus are top of mind. Great Alaska Sportsman Show will take place as scheduled, April 3-5, 2020 at the Sullivan & Boeke Arenas. Together with the building, we are taking extra measures to clean & sanitize the facility, and we are monitoring updates from health authorities as needed.

We will continue to monitor updates from Alaska Public Health & Social Service and keep you posted.

    Thanks for checking.

For now, this is what we know. I'll repost any updates if they surface.

An important message to Great Alaska Sportsman Show 2020 exhibitors:
As one of many current measures being taken to protect public health, the Centers for Disease Control has recommended that any non-essential mass gathering of 50 or more people be cancelled or postponed to limit the spread of COVID-19.
For this reason, we have decided to postpone the Great Alaska Sportsman Show 2020. We will continue to monitor updates and will be rescheduling the event once the all-clear has been received.
This was a difficult decision, made in the best interest of the health and safety of our exhibitors, visitors, partners and contractors.
Right now, we are exploring numerous new date options for the event, and we hope to have information for you soon. Considering this time of uncertainty for everyone, we appreciate your understanding and patience while we determine our best next steps.
We are disappointed we couldn’t proceed with what was shaping up to be an excellent show, and we look forward to welcoming you all back as exhibitors in the Great Alaska Sportsman Show at a later date.
We will continue to update all exhibitors as we work through this quickly evolving situation. Thank you.
    Great Alaska Sportsman Show Inc.
