  • Bowstring

Have been injoying the bow building posts. Now a project for next winter.

Now how about a "How To" on the Bowstring for those specific length bows we just built?

    George,

I just assembled two 12 strand "Flemish twist" strings per instructions I found on Youtube. If you go there and search for Flemish twist, you will find an assortment of videos. I used the two video series that showed how to do it without a jig. I mis-measured and tied my first too short so I put another one together and it seems to work well.

I then searched for "serving a bowstring" and found a good video there too. I got a bobbin and some serving material and served it up last night and it looks like a factory string! I put a nock point on it and chucked 50-75 arrows out of my newest bow last night (which my 12 year old daughter promptly took ownership of....:rolleyes.

This is definitely becoming an addiction.....

I just bought long bow to see if it was something I would like to do. I think I'm going to give building my own bow a try. My long bow came with a Flemish twist string make from artificial sinew. I never thought about making my own strings to but it would be a natural next step.

What do you use to build your strings Dacron? Something else?

If you'd like written instructions in addition to a video there's one here that also shows how to make a jig.

I "borrowed" my roll from Scott at Bear Mtn archery in Wasilla . He said if I needed to order a roll of my own he would do it for me. I think 3riversarchery online has it as well though.
