  • Nuisance young bear.

Camping with some friends and family had a young blackie run up on the kids. They're fine minus a change of pants but the owner of the campground said this is not an unusual thing this week with this particular bear. It wasn't quite a dlp situation so we didn't shoot, he told us they've bear maxed this same young one three times past few days.
Question is I have permission from the owner and several workers to take the bear they want it gone told me the troopers told them to put it down next time they saw it. I've got my bow with me they said go for it.
Am I legal to take this bear and tag normally or is this a situation we should protect us and the kids? Season is in I have valid tags. Only set back is this bear is maybe 120lb. I'd feel terrible if something happens in a few days or a week to someone else knowing I could've taken the bear. The trooper station and ranger station are both closed since its holiday wkend.

If I had tags and was looking to put bear meat in my freezer, I'd kill the bear. Why wouldn't I?

How crowded is the campground and are you certain you can put it down without it hurting someone before it dies?
If legal and safe, take it.

We are back at the very end very minimal chance of it running into someone before it expires. I have permission and it's season so if I get the chance he's coming home with me.

Almost any bear can quickly pass from "nuisance" to "dangerous". Take the bear!

We don't get a lot of bears in this direct area. I might see one or two a year. But I used to see a lot of bear activity about 5 miles up the road.
More recently, we've had more coyote and bear activity probably because of drilling. A couple weeks ago we had a black bear do laps around our house during daylight. Odd behavior. We don't have any food outside. We haven't even been putting compost scraps out for months.

In the past, I have become pretty familiar with the bear feeding areas, trails, and places more likely to cross roads. Like corners or dips in the road. This bear just walked close around our house and then right back down the road and back around the house. Last fall I had a bear show up about 10 minutes after I shot a buck during archery. Might have been the same bear. Anyway, I wish it was archery season right now.
