homer winter kings this weekend

Im looking at booking a winter king trip this weekend for a bday gift for a friend can anyone recommend a charter and is april a good time to fish for them?

homerfishing.com Daniel did good for us last weekend. we focussed on butts and rockies and then trolled a bit for kings. Ended with 12 butts, 25 rockies, 3 cod, 4 greenling, 1 released ling, and 2 Kings. Missed another takedown that might have been a king. 160 pounds of fillet total. Biggest butt was 54 inches next was 48.

First King was on during the 'demonstration' on how to detect a King strike on the downriggers - it was not down for more than 30 seconds....BAM - awesome.

I also recommend Daniels, only winter king charter I have been on was with him, and we did really well. 5 of us went and we caught 8 1/2 kings, salmon shark bit one on half while reeling it in.

If you do a search on "winter kings", or scroll back in the threads just a couple of weeks you'll see a thread on the Homer Winter King Tournament (or just search for that thread) in which a bunch of bragging was done (by me, I'm ashamed to say) about where to catch kings in KBay. There was a followup thread on my success rate in the tournament in which I was NOT bragging at all...

we had 3 rods down on the riggers - 1 at 65, 1 at 70, 1 at 75 feet over 85 to 95 foot of water. the butts were in 230ish. The rockies were in about 60 to 85ish. We were within 20 miles of the spit.

I don't think that the holes are secret in K-bay, but I won't go into more detail....

the bait rig did not get hit. 1 king on a squid skirt orangish about 30 inches behind a red/silver flasher and 1 king on a green spoon behind a green/silver flasher about 30 inches also. My personal opinion is that color probably matters, but it is more important to put some kind of bait right in front of their nose and a hungry feeder king is going to smash it.
