  • Capt. Glenn Keller 1942-2011, Prince of Wales Island

Glenn Keller 68, went home to be with Jesus on Thursday, March 17 after four hard years battling cancer. Viewing will be at Minnis Mortuary in Bucklin, KS. Services will be Monday, March 21, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. at Heaven Bound Cowboy Church 1202 S 2nd Avenue, Dodge City, KS 67801. Interment at Ford Cemetery following services. Memorial contributions may be made to the Heaven Bound Cowboy Church.

Glenn was a professional at every job he performed. His many accomplishments included a custom harvester, certified welder, land terrace builder, mechanic, oil field rig and roustabout hand, truck driver, motor grader operator, chef and pilot . For a time he had a country band and has always loved singing. He built K-Mac Oilfield Services, a successful oilfield roustabout service in Fruita, CO, until 1983 when he moved to Ketchikan, Alaska. In Alaska, Glenn faced new & exciting challenges. He managed a fish packing plant in Ketchikan which led to the purchase of his own fishing vessel and mastered commercial fishing, crabbing, shrimping, dive expeditions and fishing charters. He made a World Line Class Record when he landed a 65 pound king salmon on a trout rod with 8 pound test line. His love of fishing and hunting eventually spurred him to move to Prince of Wales Island where he successfully pioneered, built, and operated a remote fishing lodge. From bare land he created & built every structure on the 14 acre site. Bear Valley Lodge grew and prospered until 2007 when Glenn was diagnosed with aggressive prostate cancer. The only obstacle he never mastered.

Glenn is survived by his wife Kay, Mother, Mabel, of Dodge City, brother Charles of Augusta, GA, brother Cecil of Spearville & brother Wayne of Dodge. Sons Vernon of Sparks, NV, son Wesley of Anchorage, AK, stepsons Wade of Missoula, MT, Michael of Fairbanks, AK. Glenn has 8 grandchildren: Stephanie, Ryan, Austin, Travis, Tempest, Devi, Kira & Ayla. He is also survived by friends, mentors, associates, storytellers, treasure hunters, and all the other people he admired, respected, and cared about, too numerous to mention.

Please remember him as you will, good or bad, happy or sad, just remember and know that he was always rooting for you and your quest for finding whatever you were searching for and so very very happy when you were successful.

Thanks for posting this. Many locals used Glenn for charters out of Bear Valley and I had always heard the best things about the man, but never met him. RIP.
