  • King crowds got you down?

    There's always an alternative!

Saturday, 79 degrees (this is a hint as to where I was at...look in Sunday's ADN), not another person in sight.

Not a bad alternative to battling the crowds!

    Then who took the picture?
Just kidding; I love those places and will opt for them most every time.

Alright, alright...my wife was along for the trip, as well as my mother. I should have said nobody not associated with our little group.

Still, I was the only one fishing!

So nobody has Sunday's Daily News laying around? The 79 degree remark is a pretty solid clue as to the location if you look on Sunday's weather page.

I'll share, but don't be too disappointed...it's not on the road system.

It was the state high temperature on Saturday....Port Alsworth at 79 degrees. The river running right off the end of the runway is the Tanalian River, and it holds lots of grayling. I've been told that salmon will hit it late in the season, but I've never been there for that. There's a trail right at the end of the runway (walk past the building that has "CAFE" painted on the roof towards the mountain) which will take you about 2.5 miles up to the falls. In my limited experience there is better fishing down by the mouth of the river, where it dumps into Lake Clark, but the setting up at the falls is unparalleled.
