  • Lakes with blackfish in anchroage/mat-su area

    Hey guys,
I'm trying to help out a fellow masters student here at UAA with her blackfish research. She is looking for lakes that have blackfish in them to trap and study them. She has contacted adf&g and they have given her a couple of lakes but not many. So if you guys know of any lakes that you have caught these little guys in regularly or at all please let me know. Attached is a good pic of the little buggers, I think you will have to click on the attachment as it is a document file.

Just looking for help not a disscussion on how warrented or unwarrented this research is, dont worry none of this is funded by the state.

    Thanks,
    Trout-

There was an AOJ report last year where someone caught blackfish in Mirror Lake while ice fishing.

Almost every time I go ice fishing at Campbell Point Lake (AKA Beer Can Lake) in Kincaid I catch them. Do you know what about them your friend wants to study? I think they are an awsome fish which deserves some attention from science.
It ain't about the # of pounds of meat we bring back, nor about how much we spent to go do it. Its about seeing what no one else sees.

if she is wanting to catch them i would suggest going down to the dock at delong lake at night. when im coming in from an evening of float tubing i always see a bunch of em right in the shallows around the dock. bring a headlamp and a minnow net with a long handle and i bet you could scoop up a few. ive never tried catching any but always enjoy watching these strange little guys tooling around.

50ft off the south end of Lower Fire Lake.

We used to catch 'em by the bucket full 25-30yrs ago. They will freeze literally solid and come back to life if you throw them in a sink full of water. Try it some time!
