  • King Crab In Kachamak Bay

Just out of curiousty - I see a couple threads about catching tanner crab in the bay - Is there any chance that the king crab fishery will ever be opened again - or has that been totally destroyed due to over harvest?
I remember to days back in the 70s when king crab made for a great meal right off the old docks.

How stupid is it to be wasting tons of salmon and halibut as bycatch in the Bering Sea and then have the coastal villages hollaring they have no food? It's got to stop!

Didn't a season open up this winter in PWS? If I recall, it opened in October. Of course, that's not a time that many recreational boaters venture out into the Sound...but if you live in Chenega, it might have been a good fishery. We catch them longlining sometime. We have to release them, of course, but if we're catching them on halibut hooks, you know there's got to be a decent number down there.
