What part of the State? April can be decent for ocean king fishing with an occasional halibut or ling - in SouthEast. Good luck finding any charters though. Very few folks even put into the water until late April or early May.

Any good shore spots in juneau?

I'm leaning towards Juneau, but finding a charter is impossible... like you said. Any recommendations?

Don't even bother trying for trout till about June. They will not, I mean WILL NOT touch anything till the water warms up. I fished Lalen and Seymour lakes consecutively for 4 hours each day and didn't get a hit. There were many other boats out there and they said the same thing. Once that water warms up though.... unbelievable fishing:eek:

Steelhead! POW (wait I mean Juneau!)

According to my log I caught 27 steelhead in the 4 days I got out to the river last April. From 6 to 14lbs (in two rivers/streams). Also caught 7 halibut, 2ling over 36" and 3 kings in April. Fished all day Sat. and Sun. all month. If you have the cash you could get a charter here (POW) in April. Its an extra flight or ferry ride from Ketchikan. It is hit and miss though. I can find the steel that time of year but for my ocean fish I ran a LONG ways for and fished HARD!

DID catch 2 kings today though Jan 24!

                    Im on POW!

I'm on Prince of Wales Island catching steelhead. I'm sure there are bigger fish (and probably more of them) up on the Situk that time of year. A 62lber in April! Kick A....... My biggest is only around 44lbs. (Around.... right! It was 43.9 on the nose!!!) I guess I'm moving to Kodiak! I interviewed for a football coaching/ biology teaching job a few years back but was only offered the football job. Do u suppose it is open again??? Can't put gas in the boat on $5,000 a year anyway:mad:!

                        work non stop but...

Work is fishing and hunting, so its good right? Price for cod is down and diesel is still up, so I have to take it easy on the gear and hope I dont need to replace or repair anything. Living the dream!

                            lol

It is a hog, a bear hunter landed it. He shot a bear and had a couple of days to fish. Some guys have all the luck!

Cod is good food, halibut is also good...if its the same size of the cod(I dont like to freeze fish..lazy) I like to catch what I'm going to fillet and cook.
