Interesting reading. We hit the south end of Montague on Monday and hit the dog fish as well. As soon as the bait dropped we had one on.
Fishing sure is changing up here in the last 10 years or so. Used to be the occassional skate while fishing out of Homer/Deep Creek but now skates and dog fish seem to be genuine pests everywhere we go.

Next time I go out (might not be until next summer, but maybe sooner) I'll take some pictures on how to fillet the skate wings and post a recipe on how to cook them. Seriously, they're awesome eating.

Solomons Island I love to fish and crab there growing up.

I just have that itch to go out and try one more time in Homer.

Maryland, huh. I lived in Towson, but spent 18 summers in Ocean City. I caught more halibut in Homer in one day than I can catch flounder in Ocean City in a summer. Not sure what has happened to the fishing there. I used to fish for trout at the inlet jetty. Caught fish consistently, now it is a big deal just to catch one.

Now going back there and fishing isn't the same after you catch a halibut.

                  my ride...

my ride- pretty basic and entry level. I was looking to get bigger/more custom but when a good deal comes along, and with the wife's health... well, ya just gotta grab it before ALL options disappear. Oh yeah- wish I had an on water photo, but seems like I'm always out alone!

                      Yep!

That was us. I think we saw you later on as well. .. .. .. I have to ask, just how big was that halibut that took 3 shots to kill ?? LoL!

A guy that was with me was on top of our boat and yelled over "shoot it in the leg! you have to break them down!" after the 3rd shot.

Oh man, your shots sure had us wondering.

BTW, nice boat you have there.

I do remember now. It was our final spot that I took a chance on and you had one guy sitting on top. WE had to shoot three halibut that day. The big one twice. Was not behaving at all. Here is a black and white pic.

This one was over a 100#, we also caught two 80# and 73# while we were by you..
Did you see us have to pull the anchor by hand? My rig broke on me. That was pain full.

                              Nice

Not a bad looking limit there.

Just after we picked up and moved about a mile or so to start our drift, I hooked into a nice fish jigging. Fought her for 10 minutes or so. Had her just underneath the boat and she ran AT me. As fast as I was reeling, I couldnt catch up and she threw the hook. Would have been our biggest at approx 130 lbs or so ....
