  • Anyone shrimping out of Valdez yet?

Last year was the first bust year for us in 23 years of shrimping in PWS. Yet, the sport catch in PSW was reported to be over the allowed catch, so now we are down to 2 pots. So, someone was getting them or the reporting system was screwed up? Anyway, anyone getting them yet this year?

Getting some. One good set of 2 gallons then two of about 25 shrimp.

      They're there....
Note to self: Don't argue with idiots, it just beings you down to their level where they overwhelm you with their more extensive experience in being an idiot.... and, you can't fix stupid!

Last three pulls have been dismal. Time to go back to 8 pots.

I went a little deeper last set. If I strike out tomorrow then I'm going to 250'. It's harder to search with 2 pots.

              What's your usual depth?

Usually, back with four pots or five. I set the first one at 350 and head to shore dropping the last one near 250. I then see which depth was more productive and target that. Last year, in spring, 250 was good down the port farther. I am getting 12-20 Dungeness per pull with two pots. Last year I got as many as 40 in one pot. I just might be in a crab biomass and have to move.

Boy, would I like to see the Dungies make a comeback! I haven't seen them in the Sound for many years.

I was in about 325-350 today. Almost 2 gallons mostly nice big ones. So I set back on that spot. Also no crabs this time.

Ditto today. Same depth, same results. For two pots I'm OK with it as I'm not traveling far.
