Valdez bottom fish

Hi all!

Want to know if any one here has ever tried fishing for rockfish, ling cod or halibut right in front of town there in Valdez. Might have access to a small skiff this July and don't want to go very far out. I know the fishing is good out in the arm but how about within minutes of the harbor? Where about do you start running into good numbers of these fish?

There are usually a few rockfish to be found near Entrance Island just before you get to the Narrows. They are generally small though. It's roughly 8 miles from the harbor. Be mindful of the typical afternoon winds if you decide to go. I know it's not what you're looking for, but pinks should over towards Allison point in July. Good luck.

How far out do you have to go to get into some decent bottom fish? How about Jack's Bay.
