  • On Egumen today

Not red hot action, and had to sift through lots of little kokanees. I used a small silver vibrax with potzkes and raw shrimp. The trail from the parking lot has overflow from beavers but is navigable.

Did that **** musk rat poke his head up through one of your holes. That little sucker gets me just about every time out there and scares the heck out of me. I'll be jigging along not paying much attention then look down and there is a big rat at my feet looking up at me. When you're not expecting it it'll definitely make you jump. One day I looked down and he was staring at me and without thinking I smacked the crap out of him with my rod. He left in a hurry after that. Kinda felt bad about that after

Ha ha! No rat. I forgot to say that the ice around the shoreline is THIN!. But as you go further out it thickens to about 5". We used a little 6" hand auger that worked like a champ.

Hiked around Engineer Lake on Saturday. No ice. On Sunday morning there was ice, and one of our campers who brought his canoe struggled to get back.

The boys found a dead but intact long-nose sucker up on the beach between the ice and the rocks. Didn't know they were in that lake system.

If you go it there in the summer months and look in the creek running out of it there are a lot of them in there. I caught one out of that Creek a few years ago and didn't have a clue what it was till I looked it up.

Nothing like first ice. Great to finally get out and try some hardwater action. Nice job.

They are also in the petersen lake system. There is a small creek in the back that was full of them. Keep em, freeze em. Great pike, burbot and laker bait.
