  • Some jigs for a friend what do you think?

So a friend in Homer has asked me to make him some ice fishing jigs for Pike and Lake trout.
The first ones are a horizontal squid in 1 oz. I normally make these in bigger sizes for saltwater fishing.
In my tank testing these preformed much like a Northland airplane jig and I was able to hop them in circles in my test.
For saltwater applications I normally add a skirt to these but figured this time I would try my hand at tying bucktails.
I used white bucktail and added some Krystal flash and some polar flash to a few of them.
These are my first ties ever.

These are some slab style jigs with a holographic foil finish in 1/2,5/8, 3/4, and 1oz.
They still need split rings and hook attached.
I'm not sure if I will stick with single hooks or add some Daiichi bleeding bait trebles I have to them.

I also did some jigs with powder paint as well but didn't bother to take a pic.
Since I was making pike fishing gear I had to make him some quickstrikes as well.
I sure hope we get some good ice and plenty of time to test these jigs this winter season.
I hope he likes them and that they work well for him.
I don't really think I can charge him for this stuff but hopefully we can get together again this season and do some icefishing together.

The silver stinger jigs on the bottom work great for lake trout with a strip of herring.

Should tie some of those squids in chartreuse too.

            Will do Dave.
Are you talking a Chartruese jighead or the jig and the Bucktail?
I do Know I need to order some more bucktail. Tying these was kinda fun and I see myself making a bunch more of these just because...
I also love the look of the Foil jigs. This foil is called silver swirl but I have some other holographic foils just itching for me to try making something with them.

What are your thoughts Trebles or singles for hooks?
I have both in stock so either way is easy enough.

Chartreuse head and bucktail with some krystal flash and maybe a bit of tinsel thrown in for good measure.
Think of the Northland Airplane in chartreuse.

OK I'll make a few with Chartreuse for both the jig and Bucktail.
I have krystal flash and some Polar Flash so maybe I'll add both of those to them.I think the Polar flash is quite similiar to tinsel.

I got some Chartreuse bucktail and thread ordered. Now I need to cast and paint a few more jigs heads for my friend and a few for myself.
Bought some 210 denier thread in matching colors.
I also ordered the materials for that project you messaged me about on IS. We should be good to go for next year.

Very nice...love the foil work and the bucktails too. Bucktails do look more natural in the water...all we used on jigs in the blue water down south.

That is some very excellent looking lures. Handcrafted quality lures are hard to find these days. Nice job.
