Did you get your spear at Cabela's?
I went in there to find one and they were all sold out. They had a lot of decoys though.
Was that the only fish you saw in below your hole?

Got this from Nancy Lake. Very addictive, can't wait for the weekend.

Good Job!
Spear fishing is a lot of fun.
Usually hours of boredom followed by a few minutes of shear excitement.
A few tip-ups working always seems to be a good thing and is often more productive for me than spearing alone.
I used to do this regularly on the Peninsula until ADF&G took care of most of our pike.
A cheap spear is just that cheap. Mine was a gift from an old friend who gave me almost all my spear fishing gear as he had gotten to old and his health too frail to use it.
I would love to get up to Anchorage or the Valley sometime to try this again. Especially since I already own all the gear.
maybe I'll talk to some friends and try to make it happen this ice season."The closer I get to nature the farther I am from idiots"

Very cool, I have been thinking lately about giving it a whirl myself. I have friends up here from the midwest that have been asking me if I have ever tried it. It doesn't seem that popular up here, I've lived up here most of my life and have never met anyone who fishes with spears through the ice. After talking with friends about it this summer though It's got me thinking I may have to give it a try this winter.
