  • Valley Lakes?

Anyone fishing the valley lakes yet? Little campbell in Anchorage is 4" thick now so I'm thinking some valley lakes might be ready? Caught this 'bow through the ice in only 1 ft of water last year near the outlet of a valley lake. A personal best through the ice. Getting excited for some hardwater fishing this year.

Definitely getting excited. 4 solid inches is plenty to walk on. Might have to do some exploring tomorrow

Wow. Excited to hear the ice is starting to get thick enough to fish. Time to order that ice auger I've been looking at!

Awesome! When I get off the slope Tuesday ill be getting the gear ready and checking some smaller lakes.
Hopefully we get a good base before the snow flies too heavily.
The overflow last year just sucked!

Who has experience with early season ice fishing before there's snow cover? Yesterday I went for a little walk on a couple of stocked lakes in Anchorage and I was spooking fish under the ice as I walked. Any tricks for fishing through clear ice? Probably doesn't matter if you're fishing deep, but for shallow fishing seems like it would be tough.

Take a blanket, tarp or sheet. . Fishing seems to be slower since you are literally standing right on top of the. You can cover the area you are standing on. Or take a shovel if there is a little snow. Move some snow.

In the past we've even fished bobbers but stood back 20 ft.

But if you cover up, with only a few inches of ice, it's amazing how much you can see. Great learning experience and just plain fun. But be careful!!!
