Big Lake Boat Fishing

If Big Lake is ice free by Saturday, I plan on taking the boat out on it for the first time (I’ve never boated or fished Big Lake), and I’ll be bringing my 14 year old son to try and catch a fish or two. I just don’t know where to start. I’ve read the regs and won’t be using bait. I see some folks troll plugs or spoons, and some use a whole herring if fishing for pike.

I’m not looking for anyones specific spots, but does anyone have a good starting area to try our luck? I’ve heard a couple guys refer to an area called “Burnt Point”, but I’m not sure where that is… Mainly wanting to get my son into some fish. Any help is greatly appreciated! If nothing else, we’ll just try it all and see what works.

North Shore near Meadow Creek inlet is a good starting point for pike fishing in Big Lake.

Have you heard if Big lake is open? From the hwy, Nancy Lake looks still covered in ice. I've just had my boat repaired so I'm looking for a place to put it in the water and make sure everything is working correctly. Wouldn't mind throwing in a line as well. Thanks

I hope Big Lake is open.. I'm heading out there from Anchorage tomorrow morning to put the boat in. It's going to be disappointing if it's still iced!
