• 1st run of Kenai reds?

When usually is the 1st run of reds on the Kenai? I've got a bear hunt with Jake Jefferson in June & thinking about maybe staying an extra week flossing for reds. I've usually flossed for reds in the 2nd run @ July 20th.

The Kenai/Russian opener is June 11th. The run varies year to year but usually the opener is decent and peaks around the end of June.

Good luck on your bear hunt! Jake is one of the best.

Also, one thing to realize is the first run of sockeye is much smaller than the second run and all go up the Russian River. You can get on ADF&G to see the fish counts in the past years.

Wapiti, you do realize that unless you have a super hot spot on the lower or middle Kenai River, the only place worth fishing the first run is the Russian and just downstream of the confluence, right?
