  • Rumors on late run Sockeye on the Kenai

Last year we fished the late run sockeye on the Kenai in Soldotna and found fantastic numbers for mid July. I heard a rumor that the run this year could top last year. Can anyone back this up?

Aside, can anyone comment on the water level of the Kenai. Again I heard a rumor the water level is lower than usual. Any comments on water level?

The water level is low at the Pillars for this time of year. But there will be plent of water very soon.

Fish forcasts are much like weather forcasts for Alaska... predictions are just that, what really matters is when the weather, or fish show as predicted or not; when they show as predicted the science worked, when they fail to show as predicted, well, Mother Nature or worse yet, human interference suffers the blame.

Best plan is to is to go fishing and enjoy the experience.
