  • Your favorite Fly Rod

Years ago I bought a Scott A2 Fly rod, 905/9' 5 wt. It was a budget reach at the time but I had to have it. Over the years I've caught everything from small trout in Minnesota and Nebraska to big bass on the rod. It kinda got to the point where like Capt. Call in Lonesome Dove, I just kept riding one horse no matter how many fly rods I bought or what I was after.

A good friend took it to Alaska 4 times, I always felt like I was giving the rod a gift from me to it. I finally got it here myself this last year I caught dollies, rainbows, silvers, pinks, and pike on it. I used an Albright 9' 7 wt too but I'll never have a better rod for myself, no matter the price. Silvers were a bit much, but I had to tangle with a few on it.

On the last day in the rod got broke and I was resigning myself to getting a new Scott 4 piece to make the next trip a little easier. But Scott came through and it'll go again next time.

Yes, I call it "Heck Beech" just like Woodrow.

    You guys?

My grandpa's FF756 I don't fish with it much anymore because of the sentimental value but I sure do love that rod.

I hope to pass it on to a son someday (a long long time from now)
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

I happen to own the (THE) RL Winston "Saving Bristol Bay, 1 of 1" BII-x 9' 7wt built for Trout Unlimited and put up for auction. Even without the imprimatur of The Cause this is my favorite rod, and I find myself using it more than any other single-hand twig that I own. For two-handers, that is a toss-up. The two (of, oh, 14 or so) that see the most action are the Winston BII-x 6126 and the Beulah Platinum 7132.

Scott LS21307 is my favorite 2 hander, light and a dream to cast with. At 7.0 oz you can cast it all day for many straight days and no probs.....

I quess my favorite single hander would have to be my old DS2 905-4, got it when I was in high school and it is still going strong almost 20 years later. Nice medium action, not like all the pool cue like super fast rods that are the trend now....

I will just stop at 2 since I have so many rods I like I could just keep going forever.....

Right now it is the first bamboo rod I made, a 8' 2/2 5wt based on Chris Raine's 'Upper Sac Special' taper.

My favorite is my Sage RPL 490-2.
I really love the feel of this rod and it has caught a ton of fish over the years.
Sadly I broke it on a hookset 2 years ago, but Sage built me a brand new one to replace it with.
I'm happy to report the new one fishes exactly like the original.

It is like children, I can't pick a favorite. I love them all (or most of them) equally.

Just got myself a 7wt RPL, have always wanted one and the right deal came up when the wife was not paying attention so.........

Can't wait to give it a try, great to have another classic Sage brownie in the quiver.

GLoomis native run GLX 8wt. The fastest easiest casting rod I own. Second would be my RL Winston BIIX 6 wt 9.5ft awesome rod for any kind of trout fishing.
