Has anyone had any experiences with these reels? I can get one for about $130.

Reels
I've used the Velocity for two years now. Many 28-30 inch bows were caught on this reel. Great drag for big fish! Word of caution though!! You cannot get the internal drag wet or even try to lube it or the drag fails! Most fly reels I clean and lube every year. The Velocity is an exception. Great reel, but do not open up the drag system and oil it.Your bait stinks and your boat is ugly

Lamson drag
the instructions that come with Lamson reels tell you not to take the drag apart, and that it does not require lubing/cleaning. I had to send my Litespeed back to them a few months ago because I dropped it and bent the frame. I got it back in less than a week, and they fixed the frame, replaced the drag, and cleaned the whole thing. You can't beat their warranty service.
JakeAll the romance of trout fishing exists in the mind of the angler and is in no way shared by the fish.

Very good reel at any price. I have a Velocity 3.5 paired with Rio Steelhead and a Lamiglas Perigee 9 wt. rod. Nice Situk combo as I take no joy in playing fish! Just so you know, the 2009 Lamson Velocity reels are not backwards compatible! Meaning you will not be able to swap out spools between 2009 and older reels. I assume you are looking at a discountinued 2008, so you might want to stock up on a extra spool for $100.

I have a 3.5 on my steelhead/salmon rod and it's my favorite reel I've owned. No maintenance, great look, great warranty, and great performance.
