What a beauty! Full on spawn colors to empress the ladies. Going to the water dance and planning on getting lucky. Tight lines.

hey can any one tell me why some bows are black and others aren't?????? Like the one below, I know it is mature enough to spawn, is it because it's a lep.? I was at a lake yesterday and some I caught were black, others were chrome...I am guessing they were juveniles? And some were normal color or more so then black........ what's the deal?

From what I can figure.... The males seem to be the darker ones. Females not so much. As for some being more "chromy", I think they are the immature fish that are not hormonally fully ready to go. (spawn) Even tho they may attempt to participate in the process.
Sorta "practicing" I guess. Any biologists here to help out with this explanation??
Your sarcasm is way, waaaayyyyyyyy more sarcastic than mine!

intresting..........males huh? I don't know but it was pretty differen't, I don't ever recall seeing fish in streams like that, so I thought it was just a lake thing....

Another thing to consider in lakes is if they are stocked; if its triploid fish they remain very chrome year round, as they do not produce eggs. Some stocked lakes have both the stocked fish and a wild population.
