  • Recovered the floor boards

The old vinyl wore out after a lot of years of tough wear and tear. They held up so well I went with the same material.

Vinyl - From Cabelas - $165 delivered to Fairbanks
    Contact Cement - 1 gal - $45
    Staples - $2
New Stainless Screws and Washers $40

    Tools Required
    Belt Sander
    Pliers
    Utility knife
    Stapler
    Paint Roller

Removed the old Vinyl and sanded the boards smooth removing old cement.
Laid the boards on the vinyl and cut the vinyl about 3 inches bigger than the boards
Stapled the Vinyl in place on one side

Applied contact cement according to instructions and rolled board onto vinyl

Cut corners and staled the vinyl on the underside

    Ready for installation

Did you use the original plywood or replace it?

About 10 years ago I replaced the original 1/2 inch marine plywood with 1/4 inch plywood to reduce weight and it has held up well so I reused it. A little sanding to remove the old glue and went from there.

Looks great! I just ordered the same stuff from Cabelas. How long did it take for them to get to you once you placed the order? What type (brand) of glue did you use to apply it? Where did you get it from? Also did you seal the marine ply with any type of water sealer? Did you just do this project this spring?

Sorry for all of the questions I am doing the same exact thing right now. I would like to do it right the first time!

About 4 days for the delivery from Cabelas.
I used Weldwood brand contact cement from Home depot. It took almost a gallon.
I don't have marine plywood, I did not seal it - the regular plywood has held up over 10 years and is a lot cheaper if I did have to replace it.
I just finished it a couple days ago. Make sure you have lots of ventilation - I waited until it was warm enough to do outside.

Should use SS staples or they will rust out in no time.

Looks great! Good to know that replacing the vinyl on the floorboards isn't as hard as I thought.
