Ok so I am a total newbie when it comes to outboard jets and what not so I have a few questions.
First, I recently purchased an Alaska Series Jet Ranger. So now I am in the market for a small outboard jet. I am thinking something in the 20-30 hp for a 2 stroke and 20-25 hp for a 4 stroke. Would like to keep it managable for just my wife to be able to move it around a short distance if possible. My main plans for the boat/motor setup is to be able to throw it in a ATV trailer and pull it with my wheeler to various river/creek/lakes and start boating from there and also be able to throw it in a small plane as well.
I really like the better power to weight of the 2 stroke over the 4 stroke. Also I have hear bad things about leaving a 4 stroke outboard on its side(like in the back of an ATV trailer, not really sure why its a bad idea, maybe someone can clear that up.
The problem with the 2 stroke is that you can no longer buy a new 2 stroke 20-30 hp jet so I'll be watching craiglist like a hawk. Also if I ever wanted to run on the Kenai with my 2 stroke that would be a no no as well and I fear other fisheries well end up going this way as well and don't want to have to rebuy a 4 stroke later down the road.
So with the considerations listed above what do you think would be the best 2 stroke or 4 stroke given my concerns and application.
Thanks
Also if anyone is looking of unload a outboard jet in this size I'd be very interested.
