  • Anchorage Boat Dock

Anyone know if there is ice/slush in the water down at the Anchorage Boat Dock? I don't want to clog my jet with ice and I'm too lazy to drive down there.
Hike faster. I hear banjo music.

It might be closed. If I remember right it's closed for the winter and I don't remember the date they open it up, and I'm too lazy to drive down there.

If I recall, they remove the dock for the winter, but I am too lazy to look also.

I think the past several years they have placed concrete barriers across the top of the ramp so you cant use it anyway. It didn't open until about mid May. I may be wrong, but I am just to lazy to remember.

The dock should be in place by the opening day which would be may 15th. However there are no barriers in front of the ramp BUT there is alot of ice built up at the ramp. Impossible to launch your boat right now. So have patience Boating season will be here before you know it.

Does this count? I am too lazy to take a current picture.

                  Pete,

Do you listen to Guns and Roses all the time when riding in your new boat? Why didn't you call it November Rain, Sweet Child of Mine, or Welcome to the Jungle? Well, it least you didn't name it after a Poison song.....

                    forget it.

I was down there yesterday. It will be several weeks before it is usable and does not technically open (with the floats) until 15 May. Right now you'd have to dump your boat over about a 15-foot high vertical wall of ice to reach the water (depending on tide stage). Also, they usually have to run dozers down there before they install the float to remove several feet of sediment that accumulate each year. There is still a lot of ice in the inlet even if the ramp was open...

I will go by there afterwork tomorrow and take a look. I'm off at 1:00 and work at coke so no problem for me. I dont think the dock is in yet. It should be back in may 15th. When it officially opens. I've been watching the inlet and theres very little ice that ive seen.

Ok I got over my laziness finally. I dropped my brother off at the Hilton tonight and we went down to see the boat ramp. Beautiful night and the water was like glass. I talked to the guys that just got through cleaning it with dozers, it was 10:30 p.m. and he was spraying the remaining mud off with a huge high pressure hose. The dock is not in but it looks useable, although there were ice chunks floating around. Anyway I answered my own question but that's what's up in case anyone else was wondering too.
