Bruno's were one of the first fiberglass production lobstah boats. Hulls and tops are balsa cored and known to have problems with wet cores/rotten balsa. Fairly slow i'd bet maybe a 8-10knot cruise speed as heavy as that boat looks. Great hulls in bad weather but a bit rolly. Quite a few of them still fishing in many different fisheries. You interested in it ??

I have started thinking seriously about a "downeaster", this boat is appealing, looks well kept. I had read they used some coring. I am OK with balsa coring above the water line but not so keen on cored hulls and was hoping you would know, so thanks for that. I sent a email for more info specifics and never got a reply, I never called so I guess I wasn't all that interested. The price is right but looking for a little more room. I know you are knowledgeable about these so I may continue to pick your brain.

call me if you want to talk about those rigs. That one looks way to busy/heavy with all the stuff on it. Lots of better modern style hulls out there and most are solid glass. What size you looking for ? I couldn't imagine what it would cost to get that here. There are a few on the west coast that come up for sale.

Will do when things slow down, we are looking ahead a year or two and have been struggling with trawlers, fast trawlers and semi displacement. If going long distance I am ok w/8 knots, or at least I think I am, however having the ability to cruise at 15knots would be great at times. Size is likely mid-40s, I dont need a huge cockpit, prefer pilot house, do not need a fly bridge, only need one head. Need a reasonable sized engine room for regular sized humans..... and that is really a priority.

Thanks, I have a plan for getting it back and that may or may not make sense in the end.

The Duffy is a nice boat, looks well put together, almost a bit too fancy, my admiral would like the forward port seat but not the small portholes in the galley. High RPM Volvo.
Thoughts on build down VS Skeg hull?

The volvo in the Duffy isn't a high RPM motor, wot is aprox 2600. I've had both, unless your going fast it doesn't seem to make much difference to me.
                  my 29 H&H was skeg built, John Deere 6068,300hp, cruised 16 @8gal/hr

the 31 BHM i have now is built down, volvo 60B 230hp, cruises 12 and haven't had it long enough to figure GPH but it ain't much.

I have a lot to learn about these and appreciate your replies, I generally am more aware of the smaller Volvo's that are attached to outdrives and seems like they are in the 3K range.
The right size is still in question, we hope to spend some time on this boat and explore SE, hopefully have friends/family join us at times, whether they will or can remains to be seen. I have a pretty good idea in my mind of what we want. The other option is a fast trawler, when looking at ads for DE boast I frequently see FT listed as DE, although they may both be semi-displacement the hulls are different IMHO.

I wonder what their interpretation of "economical" is?

it doesn't matter if a guy can afford that rig. Wesmac is the top of
f the line when it comes to DE boats.

very high degree of finish work. Go look at some and you'll see. I bet they are at least 2-3 years out on build slots.
