But to see the smiles on these Soldiers is priceless. If you can help out thank you for the supporrt. If you can not help out. Thank you for even considering helping out. God Bless and everyone have a great evening.

Default Texas fishing forum

I just moved to Eielson AFB in May. I took part in a "take a soldier fishing" trip at lake fork south of Dallas. It was the best time I have ever had bass fishing. I would like to know if there is anything like that up here for salmon and halibut. I would be more than willing to chip whatever was needed for me and a buddy. I would like to take my first trips with someone that can show me the ropes instead of just winging it.

Thanks for any help or advice,

Matt

Hey Everyone,
I am new to Alaska stationed here at Fort Richardson with the Army. I am learning about fishing in Alaska and I have so far seemed to miss out on all the runs so far for Salmon. I have been fishing so far every weekend since I arrived and I have caught 3 Reds and a good number of small trout. That has been the extent of my luck. I am trying to go fishing this weekend for the 4th but I do not know where to go for fish that will bite. If anyone could help me out I would be thrilled. My dream has always been to live in Alaska and catch the fish Alaska is known for. Please I need some help. Thanks

Default Alaska Hospitlity....

Thanks again to ArmyGuy for getting us squared away on halibut. Hope to see you before the 16th when we fly in.....we are all looking forward to it. Thanks also smokumred for offering up assistance to the other newcomers posting here. A hearty salute to you. I am ashamed to say the same hospitality "in general" is much harder to come by down here in Washington State. Someday maybe I'll be stationed in Alaska.

Now I am doing homework for the remaining days we will be freelance fishing the banks of the Kenai and Kasilof rivers for reds (specifically July 15, 17 and 18). Any advice anyone can give would be fantastic (lower Kenai hooks and setups, public "non-secret" locations, yarn & bead setups, etc).

Thanks fellas for all your generostiy....

Default Where to Go

Was wondering if anyone knows of any good fishing in October. I am stationed at Ft. Wainwright, and am in Iraq right now. Want to take the wife out and do some fishing in early to mid October. I am going to take about a weeks leave so I will have plenty time to fish. I have been reading about the winter Halibut and King fishing out of Homer. Id love to bring some meat home. If you have any ideas, Id appreciate the info and help.

Default Homer charters

I've used these guys: http://silverfoxcharters.com/halibut-fishing.htm and like them, but I think it probable that most charters usually return with all fishermen limiting out - and that a few of the differences between the charter companys are:
- some know better spots and you'll have 40-50 pound fish instead a tiny 20 pounder.
- some might give a lesser fun experience (I've always had a good time)
- some might while filleting your catch, keep the halibut cheeks for themselves unless you know better.
- some might have a vacuum packer there at the cleaning station that you can use for the price of bags (that you get from them; they're particular to the brand of packer they own).

Also consider Ninilchik charter companies - though Homer is a fun town.

If gathering some winter meat is important to you as well as having fun tell your charter company so before you've booked it and:
- consider an overnight trip so you can take two limits
- tell your charter company so directly, and ask them what percentage of guys come home without a limit. If they say any number greater than 10%, move on.
- use a charter company that someone else has been happy with. Word of mouth works.

Hope that helps. Have a ball - wish I was going again soon.

It was an honor to get to spend a day with 2 of Americas finest. Im looking forward to taking them again after thair next deployment.

Thumbs up Flying in next week

To the forum: First thanks for your support.

Taking some time off here in Seattle (currently recruiting Army National Guard) and bringing, my two boys (10 and 19) to Seward, I would love to get them on a boat for some fishing with you guys. I am greatly moved by the spirit of your generosity. I know that you have heard this before, but support from the our friends and neighbors is what keeps us motivated when we deal with the cynics and critics. Thanks!

Default AF guy going to Alaska

Hello everyone! I'm an active duty AF here in Seattle and I'm looking to take my dad up to Alaska for some fishing this upcoming summer and I'm looking for some advice with my planning. My dad is a huge fisherman down here in Seattle and is retired and his full time job is fishing on the Skagit River! He probably caught about 100 pinks, 10 sockeye, 10 silver, 25 chum, 3 king this season! He has fished up in Alaska 5 years ago during my parent's Alaskan cruise but didn't catch anything. He's kept on talking about wanting to go to Alaska and so I want to make this a reality for him this summer! My question is, is Kodiak Island THAT much better than either Seward or Homer? We're just wanting to catch something big (halibut and king). I'm guessing we would fish on a charter couple of days and fish on the river for a couple. I'm leaning slightly towards Seward right now due to proximity to Anchorage and www.sewardresort.com. Are river fishing near Seward pretty good? I've also thought about doing a day of charter fishing and river fishing at Seward and driving to Homer for another day of charter fishing. Any inputs would be very much appreciated!

If you want some big halibut I would try out of Homer and ensure that your charter boat knows you intend on boating out further (toward the Barren Islands)to get some bigger fish. It may cost a little more with fuel fees but you will have a better chance of catching bigger fish. Your best bet to catch a monster king will be on the Kenai River the last couple weeks of July.

But you'll get a better deal fishing with the rec camp and they will take you on a long run to good 'but holes anyway because every boat in the fleet leaves the bay to get to the best fishing grounds.
2 days fishing out of seward for the price of one in homer.
Driving from Seward to homer will easily eat up a day.
Have fun and good luck.
