I will be home for R&R the first or second week of June and am planning on taking my two boys to catch some halibut. Not sure how this program works but if someone's has a boat that isn't full yet send me a pm and we will work out the details. Place, price, time...etc. My boys are 15 and 9.
thanks |

It is great to see the posts coming in. Cherios12 send me an email. We need to get in contact with each other. Have your soldiers post on here for a trip individually. I can help you set up an event for the soldiers too.

If there is any Military Men or Women that would like to do some summer fishing. Just let me know.
I have open car seats for runs down to the Russian River. Or we can head up to Willow or Montana creek. I also know of some good spots to take the family fishing. There is no charge for anything. If you need gear I have extra. Thanks everyone |

If anyone is having trouble finding a service man or woman to take hunting or fishing, grab a recruiter, most small towns have a few.

You know in all the years I have done this i have only met a handful of SeaBees. Most of them were during deployments and fixing things we blew up... Welcome aboard!

I'm normally just a lurker here but I wanted to follow-up on the comment Happy made about recruiters. I spent 22 years in the USAF & 7 of those years were spent on recruiting duty. Recruiting is one of the most demanding yet under-appreciated duties a service-member can receive. It's a lonely job and most recruiters work an excessive amount of hours, even by military standards. But it is very rewarding work in its own way because without recruiters, our Armed Forces would not be filled with many of America's best & brightest young men & women. One thing every recruiter I ever met told me was how much it meant when someone, from whatever civilian community they worked in, thanked them for what they do. The general public seems to rank military recruiters in the same category as used car salesman & debt collectors. When someone from within the community that they are working in says "thanks", it can really make their day. Most recruiters do a 3 or 4 year hitch & then return to their normal military career field. Many of them will be transferred on to the next assignment and may never see Alaska again. There are recruiting offices all around the state, for all branches of service. Stop by one of them sometime & say thanks, I'm willing to bet most of them would love to talk about fishing. When I was new to Alaska as an Air Force recruiter back in '98, I would have loved to talk with someone who had a little local knowledge to share. |

Wow, it is great to see such nice gestures on this page. I am an active duty military troop currently in Washington State. One of my officers and I will be heading up to the Kenai / Kasilof area July 15-20. We have never been to that area before and are planning on finding a halibut charter for one day and freelance bank fishing for reds the remaining days. Although intreuging, we won't be able to pay for the "guided Kenai King trips" we hear so much about....thus our freelance bank fishing. I know how to salmon fish (even for reds) but I know nothing about public access spots and specifics on the Kenai and Kasilof other than what I am gleaning from online.
If there are any folks willing to give us some pointers or assistance we would love to hear from you. We promise not to remember any secret spots. Military leave is valuable to us and we hope to make the best use of it with the best "bank" for our buck.....bank fishing that is.....pun intended. Thanks much....I'll check back. I am looking for people that have enough air miles accumulated to send 2 soldiers from Alaska (anywhere in Alaska) to near Tampa, Florida for an All Expense Paid Guided Tarpon fishing trip.
We need to get the soldiers to Florida and back, while they are there they will be taken care of completely. If we can put together another memorable trip then lets do this. Mike mike@takeasoldierfishing.com |
