Default Sportsman Show

If you are intrested in this trip, you can get it at a discount from Rust Air during the Sportsman Show. They sell it every year.

I can't speak for everyone else, but for me it's because they eat a lot of salmon and contribute to the loss of salmon runs, especially king salmon in alexander creek. Pike have some value, but comparing the value of pike to the value of salmon is like comparing a drop of water to the pacific ocean. I do like to fish for pike and eat them too, but if I could kill them all in certain places I would.

Been out there 3x in the past; great trip for the price, 2nd trip we had a black bear get very interested in what we were doing, it got in the water and sniffed around and looked like it was going to swim towards us (course the fact that we had herring with us for bait may have had something to do with it!). Spoke to a F&G guy once about Alexander, said that keeping a thousand fish out of there would hardly put a sizable dent in the pike population there; also said that eventually the pike population would crash as they are now feeding on themselves. We've kept hundreds of fish from there and pike are excellent eating (people that usually don't like fish like them).

Caught a 36" first trip, 39" second trip (released), and a 40" & 41" last trip (released). My buddy swears he saw one that went at least 48". (F&G guy said the next record pike could come out of Alexander).

I treat Pike down here like I would treat the @$*@(!)*$# that illegally stocked them in SCAK. I love fishing for pike but I like salmon and trout better.

BTW great video cusackla. I hope to get out there soon.

Default Pike

I think Alexander Lake will not likely be much more than a Pike Lake, which some of us are happy to enjoy as a break from the usual Halibut/Salmon fishing in Alaska.

Personally I am all for keeping them out of lakes where they do not currently reside, but I will hope the fishing stays as good as it is at Alexander Lake for a long long time. It is a blast!

The only way I would kill one is if I could talk a Bigger Pike into eating him for bait :-)
