Default My daughter's first PWS Bear

My daughter Mikayla shot her first bear last night and she was really excited! It was our 4th trip out in the sound out of Valdez and last night we say four different bears. Early in the hunt it was a little uncomfortable. We had just scared a sow and cub and spoked them off. I was adjusting my pack and she was leaning up against a tree and a pine cone landed on her head and she said, "Dad, there is a bear in the tree above me." Apparently the sow had two cubs, one had retreated and the other went up the tree. We high tailed it out of there and spotted this boar that sqaured a little over 6'2". She made anice shot with a 30-06 that broke both shoulders and the bear went just 20 yards. I HOPE she is now hooked for life

Nice job - congratulations to both of you. Nothing like hunting with the kids. Must have been a little tense when you realized you were between momma and the cub.

Things were a little tense for a few moments. I haven't the best track record with "bears" and it always seems to be an adventure. I had to do a lot of "sweet talking" to get Mom to agree to let Mikayla to hunt bears but now it is over it seems OK. Mikayla told me this morning she next wants to shoot a moose and caribou. She than said when Basketball is over she wants to try for a goat. I am grinning from ear to ear thinking i now have a hunting partner for life. She is 13 years old and I am glad she is chasing game instead of boys

Nice, very nice - great to see the youngsters getting onto the game. Good job dad and Mikayla! By the way dad, boys are next ;-)
