Default Black bear hunt on POW in October - any ideas on best areas to hunt?

Looking at doing a self guided black bear hunt on POW island this October. Wondering if anyone has any info. on where to concentrate our efforts. Areas, beaches, high up, etc.

Might have a boat and vehicle to use. Better off hunting the road system or using the boat?

Also heard that there is an area where residents and non-residents can hunt, but guides can't..........is that true? Reason for this (if true)?

    Weather in Oct........mainly rain?

Any info. would be greatly appreciated.

The central part of the Island (4 central WAA's) has always been a no Guide area. If that matters to you.

You cannot hunt from the road system via hwy vehicle during Sept and Oct.

By Oct 15th many Bear have hunkered down for the long nap.

And Oct (the monsoon month) last year we got 38 inches of rain .... making stream hunting interesting.

    Thanks for the info.

On the vehicles. I understood that the ban was only until the end of Sept.
One could use them again starting Oct. 1.

Could you tell me where that is at in the regs. or on the ADFG website?
I looked at the ADFG website and I can't find anything about it.
All i see (on the website) is Sept. 1 - 30 that you can't use them.

actually the Borard of Game met in Ketchikan in early Nov for the Black Bear in SE rules.

blackcat is right it will be in the new regs which will be the rules for fall '11 and spring '12.

Your best option in my opinion would be to fly into an alpine lake, and hunt the alpine for bucks and bears in Sept. Otherwise, hunt bears in the spring.

Consider it a blessing, as most guys end up shooting a dink sow in the fall hunt. That's why they have the cua.

    Spring time for bears.

I have always liked the fall hunt ... good options to fish stream Coho at that time also & combine a Blacktail hunt as 270 mentions ... I have figured out ways to hunt around that CUA Rule ... it ain't rocket science.
