    Default Homer Boat Rentals?

I posted a similar question last summer, but I find myself in a similar situation once again, so maybe somebody has some new info for me.

My in-laws come up every summer and we always try to take them fishing. Despite the fact that we have a boat based in Whittier that we can use (assuming the engine replacement is done), they are pretty set on going fishing in Homer at least once. They've offered to pay for the cost of a charter for the four of us, but I hate to make them do that..$800+ is a lot for them. I was curious if anyone knew of a rental boat operation in Homer. I know that Whittier has an outfit that rents boats from $300-525/day, depending on the boat, but I can't find anything like it in Homer. There was one that I found last year in Homer, but they were going out of business and selling their boat.

    Does anyone have any ideas?

Thanks for the tip. Some else PM'd that to me as well. I'll look into it, though the idea of the overnight double-limit charter has my father-in-law really excited. I'd rather take out a boat on our own, but that's the Alaskan in me. I may have to acquiesce to my in-laws on this one.

Old thread, but I thought this would be a good place to let folks know that I just opened a new Directory category for powerboat rentals. We've got 'em in Homer, Seward, Whittier, and Valdez. If anyone knows of others please post them here and I'll add them into the Directory. HERE'S THE LINK to the new Directory category.

Many of these boats are pretty impressive. The pricing is cheaper than a charter, if you divide the cost between a couple of people. Add a couple more, and you've got a smoking deal. Some have rods and tackle available too. Most will brief you on the best fishing locations and such. Most have full electronics onboard as well.

    Have fun!

There's a CDory that rents $500/day also in Homer.

We're trying to stick with rentals that operate under a business name, so we can list them in the directory. There's so many changes that happen with companies; I can't imagine how many individuals there are out there renting boats... or how often they would change. Not enough time to keep it all updated! Point taken, though!

10-4. Info was meant for initial poster who may not be concerned with "business" status for rental.

Not a problem at all, Jack. Much appreciated.

I launched the new Directory page, and kept adding entries. Finally stopped after getting Homer, Seward, Whittier, Valdez, Ketchikan, Prince of Wales, and Sitka. I'm sure there are many I missed.

Bayes Boat Rental is still here in Homer. We've been busy and added a 2nd boat last spring.

A DIY rental is not for everyone, but if you've had previous experience operating a power-boat on Kbay or Cook Inlet, then it's one of the most affordable ways to get a group out on the water!

Check out BayesBoatRental.com or click the Sponsor Banner on this forum.

    Thanks!
