Montague Island Kings
Headed out to the Southwest end of Montague for a week around May 18 to the 25th from Whittier. We're hoping to pick up some Kings. Checked out the Montague Island King article in Fish Alaska magazine late last year.
Looking for any input, are we just too early, or should our timing be OK. Any suggestions on where to get started trolling? Appreciate any suggestions, advice, help or anything. PM if you don't want to post.
They should be there by them. We were out there yesterday and could not find them, but we did get a few smaller halibut while trolling. There is also a pretty good swell out there most of the time, and there can be a rip tide there when the wind is running opposite of the tide.
It can be pretty spotty this time of year for the Kings. I think these are transient fish passing through that we pick up down there.
Glad to hear Jrogers got a few butt though!
How's the snow level on the beach down that way?
The snow level on the beach was pretty much zero. It seemed like the south slopes were pretty snow free, and the north slopes still had significant coverage (3-5 feet?) In general it seemed like a light snow year for PWS.
