    Default First Gizz sighting

The family decided to go out for a long walk today now that the snow has gone and dried up. We’d been on the trail for about 30-45 min and then I began to catch a strong smell, yes you know the one. We were in an area not known for bears so I kind of passed it off as something else and the wife gave me a crazy look. As my oldest son and I come up to this small bluff he gets really excited and begins to point down and says look at that bear. Yep just 35 yards away, a nice early spring grizz. I was surprised that the bear never even turned to look at us, even as all three of the boys were pointing and saying, look mom look. Equipped with only my new air bow and camera on the phone, I was kind of nervous to even take a shot having the family so close. Luckily my oldest did have his digital air range finder and he quickly gave me the distance at which point I drew and released. WHOP, nice quartering away shot and the bear didn’t even go 25 yards. As I turned to my wife she was looking at me in utter disbelief, she couldn’t believe what just took place, especially in a public setting. Me and the boys all gave high fives and went down lower for a few closer pictures. The wife was really embarrassed as others began to look at use like we were crazy.
Luckily for the bears, they were in a nice enclosure at a wild life park just ¼ mile from where we currently live. You see, we just moved to Germany in Oct for a stint and are already missing the great state of Alaska. I do keep in touch with some friends there and we’ve been talking about the upcoming bears season. I get on here every day and try keeping up with what’s going on in our home state, the wife says this site is like my face book. I know that spring is just around the corner for you guys and you’ll soon be able to take out your pint up frustration on a nice fuzzy bear soon enough, until then just be nice to each other I look forward to seeing everyone’s pictures. 2 more yrs to retirement, can’t wait to get back home.

One more close up. Good looking bear, he would go close to 7 foot.

How many pounds are you shooting? What grain was the broadhead? Did the caretakers object when you scaled the fence to pack it out? Nice trophy, good to share with the wife and kids.
