Thread: forgot to drain the pacer pump

    Unhappy forgot to drain the pacer pump

    The title says it all. I went out and pulled the drain plug on my 2" hydraulic pacer pump and you guessed it, water drained out

    Do you guys think its ruined?

    I don't have the technology to take a pic I lost my memory card in my cell phone. Its a plastic hydraulically driven raw seawater pump w/ a 2" inlet/outlet. I hope its tough enough to w/stand a good thorough freezing. Did I mention its spendy?

    yeah it would have only been half full because the inlet is halfway up and it drains when the boat comes out of the water. But I'm worried about the rubber impeller inside getting screwed up. oh well it is what it is

    just get another impellor but i'd be more worried about the case being cracked. I've ordered parts direct from pacer before.

    rubber takes freezing glood, just dont turn it on before its thawed

    If it was only half full, then you might be OK. Where freezing water gets you is when it has no where to expand to, and it can generate a lot of force. I had this on my old jet boat where it cracked aluminum heat exchangers when water is trapped inside. I would definately make sure what is in it is completely thawed before you apply power to it, or this would damage the impeller. I am betting the impeller is OK as well, since they are flexible.

    If it is damaged, you should see cracks in the casing of it based on my experience.

    Killer! I think you're right, Jrogers and greythorn3! I'm glad you reminded me not to run it till its fully thawed I was about to go fire up my honda auxiliary and give it a spin... Hey Steve due to the location of my pacer if I had to replace the impeller it would be a crying matter

    if it was cacked more than likely there wouldn't be much water left in it......pacers are tough i bet its ok!
