    Default where's the snow??

this is starting to get depressing... even the heli guides in AK are having trouble even finding decent snow for their clients... one company in Haines just shut down ops for the season and another one in Girdwood is even sending clients down to Sun Valley, ID!

I'm looking to make my annual pilgrimage to Thompson Pass here in a week or so and thinking I might head elsewhere...

any ideas, suggestions? positive snow reports?

we are going to give cantwell a try, have heard mixed reports, I have never been. Friend of mine was going to take us into a spot that he said would be awesome, but he had to leave for work early so we will be on our own, beats sitting around the house

I believe there's quite a bit in kotzebue and the SW brooks foothills, http://aprfc.arh.noaa.gov/data/snow/....php?site=PAOT

as for the road system, not so much, but I'm sure there are pockets. Basically all aspects got blown out in the talkeetnas and the depth hoar was pretty scary last I looked.

enough snow in the trees in Cantwell to get me and several other guys in our group stuck a few times. Mountains are windblown and hard so if that is your thing then it sucks, but if you like boondocking in the trees, it was pretty good

It has not snowed here in near a month, and lots of slides & bare mountain sides.

How was the highway into Cantwell? We are heading up to Alpine Creek this weekend.

As for Thompson Pass, look elsewhere. All blown out. Looks like its time to break out the fly rod and start getting ready for fly fishing.

would have been a nice drive in a corvette, pavement all the way, warm when the sun is up, but very cold in the morning

Not what I was hoping to hear. Was looking forward to unloading in Paxson and having to snow machine in.

I drove up the parks highway to cantwell, I didn't go down the Denali highway, I dont think that rode gets plowed so I am sure you would have no problem unloading in Paxson and riding the highway
