One of my students will be running in the Junior Iditarod this coming weekend. I think I'll be following that one closer than the actual Iditarod. Pretty cool seeing a 16 year old pull everything together to make a race like this a reality.

Thats pretty cool Brian, hope the whole class (school) is behind this person, it takes alot to just do the junior.

Yea that's pretty impressive. Are you comfortable saying who it is so we can all follow him/her?

Looks like the Start/Restart/Finish will be broadcast on GCI channel 1. Don't know if you'll receive it if you're on satellite though. Doesn't look like it'll be on network tv though.

Yea and their live streaming video that those of us with paid Insider subscriptions didn't work worth a hoot today. I doubt they can get it fixed by tomorrow.

Ketchikan has a rookie running this year. Angie Taggart bib #19, she's an elementary school teacher and most of the town will be following her progress.

    Go Angie!

Ladys & Gentelmen START YOUR DOGS, lol, and there off.

Good luck to all, and hope they are all safe on the trail.

I wonder if I can use that line at next years Nascars race to shed light on this race,

It's a bummer that no TV station was carrying this (besides GCI cable, but who has GCI cable anyway??)
Here are some youtube clips from the start/restart:

Yea, I think I going to paint Tony Stewarts car next year for the Vegas race. The slowest vs the fastest , lol. That would be a sweet looking car with the mountians and the dogs pulling the sled on the car, hmmmm have to give this some thought. Wonder what sponsers we could get.

And drives the number 14, just the right amount of dogs,

Lance.jpgI have to say being new to AK this was one of the coolest things that I have seen yet. You could feel the adrenaline from the dogs and mushers. I felt proud just watching them. I would love to get into this sport. With that being said itís a monstrous commitment and can and should not be taken lightly. Good luck guys!

Been a rough start for some, good luck Rick S. if you are going to keep on the trail. And Martin, don't know what the ruling will be on this but hope it works out.

Good luck to Lance also. Heck good luck to all, lol Weather is supposed to be the best in alot of years, should be a good ride.

Too funny. I stayed at Sebastians when I was in Whitehorse handeling for my friend Wayne a few years ago.

Martin's fine. They couldn't check him in until all his dogs showed up but they all eventually made it to the checkpoint. Then he signed, signed out, and returned to the trail. They can't get help from outsiders but they can get help from other mushers.

Lance is down to 12 dogs already but if anyone steps up to adversity, it's Lance. Life throws challenges at him and he say bring it on!

John Baker, Alaska's Native Son Wins the Iditarod!

Here is a video of him coming in with native drumming in the back ground.
    http://www.ktuu.com/news/ktuu-iditar...,6497217.story

Here is his finishing video. He posted the fastest Iditarod time in history.

Lance has dropped to 16th place and is down to 7 dogs. He must have 6 in harness to place in the race.

I think he'll be able to finish. He's down to 7 dogs though so if he looses one more it'll be tricky. He's going over 8 mph right now which is a pretty good clip. He's only got about 50 miles to go so should make it tomorrow. I don't know right off hand how long ago he rested the dogs or how long they rested though.
