    Default 3 hungry dogs...

The story of 3 hungry dogs..

There are 3 hungry dogs who are fed by a strong person
who does not care who eats well or not..
    Anyway..
It's feeding time for these 3 dogs and the person who feeds these dogs brings out a nice big juicy steak and throws it to these hungry dogs. Only 1 dog gets the steak and the other 2 are left without food that day.
Eventually 2 of the 3 dogs are going to start getting more hungry and more angry that only 1 of the 3 dogs it getting this tasty steak that is thrown to these 3 dogs. The dogs start fighting amongst themselves since the person who feeds them sees that there is only 1 steak to feed 1 of the 3 dogs instead of splitting this juicy steak that can be managed to feed 3 dogs a day. Since this person does not see the need to split this steak up between the 3 dogs, the dogs keep fighting and eventually 1 by 1, there is only 1 dog left standing since this 1 dog is the only one who gets this juicy steak that is big enough to feed all 3 dogs.

Now, imagine the steak as a salmon, and the 3 dogs represent the sport fishery, the commercial fishery, and the P/U fishery.

    Make sense now?

We, as fisherman, no matter if commercial, sport or P/U, need to stop fighting amongst ourselves and start a fight, together, against the person/people who manage the "steak".

Just my opinion and an honest one.

Ok - I'll bite. So what do the three united dogs do to the feeder to make it more beneficial for all three dogs equally?

You can't make the steak larger, you can't split the steak evenly because if you give the dogs knives only 1 dog will come out alive anyway...

The version that I heard was the two dogs that did not get any steak were walking down the street and came upon a butcher shop where a large steak was hanging in the window. One dog wanted to go in and steal the steak and run away, but the other dog said, 'No, lets just sit out here and howl until the butcher shop owner throws us the steak so we will shut up'.

May have been different dogs in a different situation!!

Yeah its called PWSAC, DIPAC, CIAA among others. The state needs to ease permit restrictions so these hatcheries can get the green light to take more wild brood stock and keep our state fisheries viable. We need 'MO FISH!

It's a never ending battle between the commercial, sport and P/U fisheries.
We are pointing fingers at each other constantly!!
If the fish were managed correctly, starting years ago, we wouldn't be blaming each other for the drop in fish numbers and who gets what fish or who owns what fish or , or, or etc....and we are so sure that some fishery is getting way more than other fisheries.

We are all fisherman/woman whether we do it for profit or for food.
I have never commercial fished, but I am sure some sportfishers have in the passed and I am sure the commercial fisherman still do sports fishing when they have time.

Without a strong management plan, there will be no fish to go around for any of us.
What is that management plan? I don't know. But someone does and it better be done soon.

The fishery 'resource' is finite and simply proposing to grow more fish is a short sighted and unrealistic solution.

The answer lies in controling our own population growth and taking proper care of our planet's habitat. We don't need more fish, we need fewer people. Until we admit that and start to do something about it, there is no light at the end of the tunnel.

My God man, you sound like Mao Tse Tung!
Should we only allow couples to have one child and if its not male should we abort it and fine the birth parents?
I have a more humane and definitely more entertaining solution, how about if we not let the communist types w/ too many useless university credits under their belts in this state? Maybe you could put your grant writing skills to work to champion a legal way to do this?

Fullbush, you're killing me, man! Between your comments about the patriotic commercial fishermen in the dipnet forum to this one, my sides are aching from laughter. Good humor while I'm working and listening to the BOF at the same time.

You see that is not how the world or dogs work. You are talking about socialism to a degree. Greed has and will always push for more of a finite object be it fish or money. Sorry but lets work for the good of us all wont work when there is money involved and dont spout about being greedy and all that BS. You **** right i am greedy. I work very hard for what i make and would like more of it. You see we are all very greedy. ALL OF YOU myself as well.

    I have the ANSWER fullbush.

    People Permits!

    A few stipulations needed:

I am the only one that gets them.

I can get as many as I want.

I am free to utilize them as I see fit.

Stupid People - ya just can't shoot em.

Now - anyone want to disagree with me again?

    You are a liar!!
If you are so greedy then why do spend your hard earned money to fly here, buy a fishing license, hire a guide, take your fish to a processor, stay at a hotel, and rent a car?
You do this all why visiting Alaska and you sir, are not greedy.
We just wanna make sure there are still fish here, for you and many others, who want to fish our waters.
So I guess if you call yourself greedy for doing all this and leaving a ton of money in Alaska, then I guess you are greedy, and that kinda greedy is very welcome here.

What ever happened to the hatchery at Big Lake and all the fish that used to be taken from Fish Creek......

When there are few or no fish in one waterway people will flock to another.....

Yeah I realize that the fish are larger in the Kenia but it also costs more to drive there. I'm still getting over the fact that I can't use my boat for the PU fishery on the lower Kenia.....

I have never met Mao Tse-tung, nor heard him speak, so I'll have to take your word for it. I was merely pointing out the factual reality of the matter however, not proposing in any way to dictate the solution to anyone. You did that. We all have to make our own choices. Unfortunately the majority of us anymore seem to make ignorant, short-sighted choices. I am not a communist (if you were attempting to imply that statement was directed at me), nor do I have any useless university credits. I've never written a grant proposal in my life either. But I can usually recognize the reality of a situation when I see it, and attempt to act in the most educated, responsible manner in response to the situation. I try not to resort to name calling in an attempt to hide my own ignorance, or bully someone from their view point.

I like your avatar fullbush. Is that you in the photo? Certainly a creative and productive use of an otherwise perfectly good table. Must be a good story to go with that.
