    Default HB/Albany gunwales ...

For those of you with Hudson Bays or Albanys, which is better, the wood gunwales or vinyl gunwales? Advantages, disadvantages, attaching accessories, durability, etc.? What's the best choice?

I have ash on my HB,the ash looks bad after a seaon or 2 of use, and needs to be refinished. The vinyl doesn't look as classy but would be maintanence free

I should use spar varnish after hitting my ash Albany gunwales with stain - but I don't. Each spring it takes me about 20 minutes to put more stain on them and though they don't shine all bright like, they look new. Works for me.

I'm glad I have ash instead of vinyl. You can put a screw or cleat or anything anywhere and not wonder what the fastner is biting into. And if you were to want to cover up a hole later, again wood is better.

Though I'll not argue with those that like vinyl. Its kind of like buying a house that's all brick/vinyl - you know (and are glad that) you'll never be out there painting or staining.
