    Default Sheep and Ice Fields

What has been your experience with sheep living in mountains with ice fields? Do they bed in them to cool down? To hide? I'll be heading out for Aug 1st.
It's the journey, not the destination.

I think sheep stay away from ice feilds
I choose to fly fish, not because its easy, but because its hard.

    brno,
The general consensus is the oldest rams tend to favor the glaciated areas.

I've seen pics of rams on "islands" of nearly bare rock way out in the "middle" of large glaciers and icefields.

    Default Bug Control

Probably for bug control. Caribou, bears and goats will do it. Even saw an eagle out on Hich. sitting on an ice field cooling off.

    Default Also pretty good

predator control - both 2 legged and 4 legged. Some of the biggest rams ever shot in Alaska were on these "glacial mountain tops" - there is a specific german name for them but I do not recall the nomenclature.

    Default Sheep and Ice

My TMA hust was spectacular and the 2 largest rams I ever saw were on one of these ice islands. They worked the edges and stayed high, but never saw them venture onto the ice. Although they would of haved had to in order to even get where they were. The amazing thing was all day and all night we were listening to ice calve and rumbling ice. Sheep will be where you find them!!!
