I also heard that Honda marine will be unveiling a big horsepower outboard at the Miami boat show, too. I wonder how heavy those things are?

I wonder how much fuel two of those would burn? Pete where did you hear that about Honda, I think it's about time they stepped in to the larger outboard market.

I flew from Tampa to Minneapolis over the weekend and on one of the flights sat next to an engineer that worked on this engine. Sounded pretty cool. Nothing that would fit my needs (or wallet), but what a beast.

How many years have they been in the prototype stage? At least 3, maybe 5 years. I would not want to be on that waitlist.

A few years ago I was running our race boat. (18 foot blown injected alcohol with a v-drive) and a guy with a tunnel hull boat with a BIG Merc outboard came up and wanted to see what his boat would do against a prepped race boat. We were down in Oregon on a kilo course (one kilometer)I beat him easily in the 1/8th mile then he got it settled in. I have no idea how fast he topped out but an outboard passed me up. When I asked him he said it's a new prototype 5 liter Merc. He mentioned that up on plane the bow of the boat tended to rotate in small occilations due to the incredible torgue. We looked at his transom and it was reinforced and reinforced again about 6 feet forward. I can't imagine the forces that outboard was putting on aft stringers and the transom. Ya better have one stout special built boat for anything like that. Boy it would be fun though.
I got out of racing and race boats because it was too much fun $$$$$. Fishing is a bit safer at my age. Besides I can take the grandkids for a ride in a fishing boat.

    .
Groovy video. But motors without combustion is like talking about hot chicks on the internet without pictures. Worthless.

Anyone have anything more on the Honda 250? Very interested, but I would have thought that after all these years that they'd make a bigger jump than 25hp.

Check your math. I believe the 150's are well over 400 pounds each aren't they?

It will be interesting to see what kind of fuel burn they are getting with them. I don't think there is much of a market for them here, but on the go fast CC boats like the intrepids, they will thrive. I don't have enough chest hair to run one of those boats any way.
