Default chickenheads are ruining the hackle market

Those girls at the fair are driving up to cost of hackle.
I really don't think this is what Doc Whiting or Henry Hoffman had in mind.

hmmm... looks like some pretty good dry fly and flatwing hackle.

Hope I don't have to start hiding my tying supplies from my lady.

If you find Whiting A (bronze)for less than $50/cape or AA (silver) for <$68-72, you better buy it. This fashion movement has caused a 130 - 175% price increase in grizzly capes, and more than a few flyshop owners have jacked their prices upwards about $30/cape.

NOT the worst fashion fad I've ever seen IMO...

And as far as I'm concerned the blonde in the spring promo video can wear whatever she wants.

    Sucks about the pricing though.

WOW! Well there's something to be said for stalking up... luckily about 10 years ago I ran across a shop closing out all their Whiting Gold and Silver for about 70% off so I dropped some $$ and bought about one of everything. Still not even close to using it up - good hackle goes a long way.

Hopefully when the fad passes we'll see an equal drop in demand and price... I'll be keeping my eyes on ebay down the road.

sounds like a good time to invest in an aviary that raises these birds..
Kinda like when oil prices started to go up you invest in them so you can pay the fuel bill at the pump with the dividends.

Did anyone else see the booth at the fair doing this. We flew back from outside with one of the girls doing henna tattoos, so my wife stopped to talk to her. When I saw the whiting saddle I was a little perplexed.

I'm with Rich, I think I've got enough hackle to last me for a little while. Except white.

LOL... white is the one color I'm running low on as well. Can be tough to find good white (or "cream" as they often call it).
