Thread: Blacktail deer

    Default Blacktail deer

I was just wondering how the deer are doing on Kodiak and in SE? We were thinking this year might work out for us to get up for a deer hunt. Thanks for any insite. Has this winter been hard on them?

They certainly aren't struggling in SE. No snow to speak of thus far. We'll get a little storm come through then it has been raining for a week afterwards. So far this is two mild winters in a row, should help the population a bit.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Well, OK tdelarm, if you have dibs on Kodiak, we got dibs on POW!

    Thanks for the feedback!

Terrible winter over here on POW. 8+ feet of snow on the ground. I'd be shocked if any deer make it through the winter. I'd suggest Kodiak for sure.

I've heard it's been a regular feeding frenzy for the wolves catching all those deer bogged down in the snow.

Sounds pretty serious. I better check this out personally I'm sure it will require at least two weeks for a full investigation.

Make sure it's the first two weeks of either August or November.
I'd agree with you, but then we'd both be wrong.

Well, better make it Kodiak then because the subsitence b.s....errr... I mean regulations, say that you can't hunt POW first two weeks of season unless you reside in a rural area. No matter, there aren't any more deer over there anyway, just ask anybody.
    Alpine is awesome...

Default You Might Be Surprised in Paradise, these days

Better double check your access maps for Kodiak before you get too excited,

there's a fair amount, (as in Large amount) all around the town side of the island, that can't be hunted for Deer at all,
unless you are Much More than just a Local, or Rural, and it is for a lot more than a couple weeks,
    try forever, unless you Pay

Check before you come down,.....you might be surprised,.. ...................

I'm not joking but, I am laughing a bit, this is good info,..... really,
hate to see guys surprised after paying all that money to come down to hunting paradise,

Har, Har, I had to get my self protection bit in also you guys, Kodiak ain't a free for all anymore

The ABC's are getting hit hard too, Snow 10' deep. I think everyone is gonna have to start hunting out of Ketchikan or the Mistys. I heard Yakatat had a deer migration.

We just hit 11' feet yesterday in our area. Sooner or later I'll have to break out a shovel.

Default "Pay Attention, Boys" the Outsiders may be coming....

Out at the range yesterday, 30F, no snow left after a week or so of 38's,

I had a Fawn cross the road ahead of me, and I swear, that little guy was so fat,....

I've heard they are concerned about Childhood Obesity problems with the Blacktail Herd this year,
Been Too Easy, something's gonna go wrong for sure,

You better make your plans for "Anywhere Else But Here" ....Really,..... Seriously,
it's gonna collapse, into Deer wandering around with video game stare

and they start out "Sooo Innocent"

Then they start "Hanging Out with the Older Boys," and it's all downhill from there

until they eventually are "Tragically Lost in an accident, cause they weren't paying enough attention..."
