Default Looking for for a Chessie

Hello- We are looking to adopt a Chessie if anyone knows of one looking for a home. Needs to be good with kids, house broken. Not really interested in a puppy-2 yr old or so would be ideal. Any leads appreciated, we just lost ours and the house feels pretty empty.

    Thanks,KK

    Add from Alaskaslist:

We have a male pure bred chesapeake bay retriever, Jack, who will be 2 years old on March 30. Free to good home. He is not registered, but we have papers. He is a beautiful, metallic light chocolate color. Jack is a friendly dog. Unfortunately, our small, older dog does not get along with him. Jack needs a caring home with room to run. He is not neutered and would be excellent for breeding or hunting.
    Please call George at 224-3200

For your reference only. I am not promoting this dog or stating any guarantees.

Sorry to hear you lost your Chessie -- the good ones never seem to live long enough. I don't know of any available in state at this time, but will keep ears & eyes open. A couple Chessie rescue programs are:

American Chesapeake Club Rescue Network (http://www.amchessieclub.org/rescue/rescue.html). Not all dogs are posted there, but Camille Druge is the coordinator for the western states & may have/know of a dog that would fill the bill. She was phenomenal to work with when I adopted 6 yr. Ben (originally from Michigan) back in 2009.

Chesapeake Bay Retriever Relief & Rescue (http://www.cbrrescue.org). You'll find dog listings there & contacts, but I think the contact for Alaska is no longer active. A good person to contact listed at http://www.cbrrescue.org/rescuers_northwest.asp is Carol Williams.

Hope you find the right Chessie soon!

Yeah good luck finding a Chessie. I just got a Chessie puppie from a Breeder in Eagle river but they sold all of their dogs. I looked for close to a year to find a Chessie puppie up here.

    KK,

Did you find a Chessie yet? There's a brown, male Chesapeake at the FNSB Animal Shelter. He's approx. 3 years old, wearing a greenish camo collar, was picked up in the North Pole area on Feb. 25th, is apparently not microchipped, and the owner hasn't contacted the shelter yet. The Fairbanks shelter's phone number is 459-1451. The dog's ID # is A083053.

Sorry I didn't update this thread too, but the Chessie at the Fairbanks shelter was adopted. He's more like 7-8 months old, not a 3 year old by any stretch.

I heard that Wildwood Kennels in Tok has Chesapeake puppies on the ground. Contact info is at http://www.akwildwoodchesapeakeretrievers.com/

I don't know if anyone here would be interested, but, Jim Price in the Palmer are will be having a litter of chessie puppies. Two things though. His b***h is a qualified all age chessie b***h and he bred to a FC/AFC Rudy of Nordais who has been dead for maybe 7-8 years. So, this will be a high dollar litter. Also, Jim is having a relative in Houston, Texas whelp the litter; so it's not quite as local as I'd like. But this is about as high a quality field breeding as chessies are liable to have this year.
