Default Any halibut in K-bay somewhere

I have never fished halibut in the winter out of homer but a friend of mine just bought a new boat and wants to try it out next week. I was hoping to find a but or two and have a fresh dinner that night. We might drop the crab pots if we can come up with some kind of bait to put in the pots but i need to check the regs to see when that week or two closure is.

    Thanks

I'm not sure about halibut, but my buddy got six kings today.

Tanners are open, halibut availible at the usual early season hot spots after monday, and yes, the winter kings have been rather good to us when we can get out. FISHON

I've hit some small buts off of McDonald Spit in the winter. If I recall correctly, we worked along the spit about 1/2 mile off the beach.
No big ones, but a couple of fresh meals on each.

Try off of Seldovia Point out around 80 to 90 ft. of water. You can do double duty buy trolling herring about 10 ft. off the bottom and you might end up with a few butt and a few kings as well.
